How to Apply and Remove Press-On Nails
A practical guide to fitting, preparing, applying and removing press-on nails using the instructions supplied with your adhesive.
Lay out your set before you start
Choose a clean, dry workspace and match a press-on to each natural nail before opening the adhesive. The press-on should sit comfortably without pressing into the surrounding skin. If a piece does not fit, try another size rather than forcing it. Keep your chosen pieces in order so application is easier.
Prepare according to the supplied directions
Remove any old adhesive and start with clean, dry nails. Your set includes a file and buffer, a cuticle pusher and alcohol prep pads. Use preparation tools gently and only as directed; do not aggressively file the nail surface. Read the labels on the adhesive and prep products before use.
Choose glue or adhesive tape
Glue and adhesive tape are different attachment methods. Follow the directions for the option you choose, including the amount to apply, where to place it and how long to press. Do not assume one application time works for every adhesive. Keep adhesive away from skin and eyes, and follow the product label if accidental contact occurs.
Apply one nail at a time
Align the press-on with your natural nail before pressing it into position. Apply pressure for the duration given on the adhesive instructions. Allow any recommended setting time before exposing the manicure to water or putting pressure on the tips. Check that raised bows, flowers or pearl-style accents are not catching on clothing.
Remove gently
Use the removal method recommended by the adhesive manufacturer. Do not pull or pry a press-on away from the natural nail. If it resists, stop and follow the adhesive's removal directions again. Different glues and tapes may require different removal products or steps, so avoid treating them as interchangeable.
Store pieces after removal
If you plan to use a set again, inspect each piece after removal and clean it only as the product instructions allow. Store dry pieces together and protect raised decorations from pressure. Reuse depends on the condition of the nails, adhesive and removal method; it is not a guarantee of a fixed number of wears.
